Chatfield Stand – Up Paddleboarding

On the 7th, our troop went to Chatfield State Park for an overnight campout, and a stand up paddle boarding lesson. The troop went to the Chatfield Reservoir for a lesson about paddle boarding, and a few of us stayed at a campsite overnight. Around 30 scouts showed up for lessons, and those that showed up for staying overnight helped with one of the highlights of the trip: Lashing together a troop flag pole. Overall, we had a wonderful time.Image

August 14er Trip

In August some of our scouts went on a back packing trip and tried to reach the Summit of Mt. Belford.  Some of the more experienced scouts reached the summit of both Belford, and Mt. Oxford via a Saddle Back path.  The younger scouts didn’t quite make it to the top of Belford but they came close.  The younger scouts camped on the climb due to a later start because of heavy highway traffic.  The more senior scouts camped the first night at a camp site where there was an old miner’s cabin.  The scenery was beautiful and the scouts had a great time.

Summer Camp – Medicine Mountain Scout Ranch

Our summer camp this year was at Medicine Mountain Scout in South Dakota.
We had a blast!  The Scouts visited local attractions like Bear Country USA, the Jewel Caves, the Crazy Horse Memorial, and Mt. Rushmore.

At Camp the kids worked on various merit badges and some of our more senior scouts participated in Caving and Climbing High Adventure activities.

The scouts participated in some camp wide contests and races, some did the Polar Bear Plunge, and a few did a flag ceremony.  Our bugler, Matthew, was the camp bugler for opening and closing flags every day.  Some of the Scout Masters even had fun by participating in the Scout Master Splash.  The Troop also did a service project to paint some benches and earned the “White Buffalo Award.”

It was a great camp and we’ll plan to go back.

Camp Alexander

The annual New Scout campout to Camp Alexander was a great success.  The Red Scarves slept in shelters and had an adventurous night hike (which included “rescuing” Fiona and Mr. Turchiano).  The New Scouts learned to cook, clean and use their knives & axes.

Everybody had a great time fishing!
